Jeroen Krijgsveld received his PhD in biochemistry and microbiology from the University of Amsterdam in 1999. He moved to Utrecht University for postdoctoral work in proteomics in the group of Prof F. Nijkamp, and joined the Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry group of Prof. Albert Heck in 2001 with a main focus on the development of quantitative mass spectrometric approaches. After a postdoctoral period in the lab of Steve Gygi (Harvard Medical School, Boston), he was appointed as assistant professor in the Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry group at Utrecht University.

His main interest is in the application of analytical techniques in proteomics applied to protein dynamics in developmental biology in various organisms (Drosophila, C. elegans), with a special interest in stem cell biology. Over the past few years he has developed isotope labeling techniques in embryonic stem cells to study changes in protein expression levels and modifications (including phosphorylation) during differentiation. In 2007 he initiated the HUPO–initiative ‘Proteome biology of stem cells’. In October 2008 he will move to EMBL, Heidelberg.
